We have a thriving Sunday school divided into three classes:
We all start off in the service with the main body of the church for the first 20 mins and then, after we all sing the Children’s Song together, we leave for Sunday School, which is held downstairs.
Sunday school then starts with some fun Kids Worship, prayer and then we separate into our own age-related groups for the next 40 minutes.
Our creche workers teach the children about Jesus through play and discussion. DVD play throughout the session (e.g. VeggieTales) and children’s toys, games, playdough, books, puzzles and colouring are available.
Teaching time includes a video clip on the subject we are studying, followed by teaching from a Bible reading and a group discussion. We then do a fun craft around the lesson subject. Depending on the subject content, we sometimes even break out into a role play or drama.
Teaching and discussion from the Bible around themes relevant to teenagers. The students are provided with journals by the church, and are encouraged to update what they feel the Lord has said to them through the teaching.
All 3 groups meet up together again towards the end of the morning for snacks, chat and hanging out together until the service is finished in the main hall upstairs. When the weather is fine, there is also the opportunity to spend time in the enclosed garden at the rear of the building.
During these strange times, we have not been able to send the children out of the service for their Sunday School lessons, so we have included a slot for them within our main service. Sometimes the teachers will deliver a talk live to the children and sometimes they will prepare a video for them. Here are a couple of examples of videos specially created by two members of our Sunday School team.
